I see the DUP, in an effort to stagnate change and progress, has said that they will not now enter into power with Sinn Féin until the IRA is disbanded. I for one am a little bit sick of these desperation tactics, the DUP are fast running out of excuses because that is all this attempt is.
Nothing more than an excuse to refuse to share power with Nationalism!
Under the GFA all that was required of the parties was that
"All participants accordingly reaffirm their commitment to the total disarmament of all paramilitary organisations. They also confirm their intention to continue to work constructively and in good faith with the Independent Commission, and to use any influence they may have, to achieve the decommissioning of all paramilitary arms within two years following endorsement in referendums North and South of the agreement and in the context of the implementation of the overall settlement."
That has been achieved, for Republicans anyway. The DUP has still not used its influence to get Unionist paramilitaries to decommission.
There was not mention of disbandment under the GFA, no mention of pictures etc
Republicans have fullfilled their obligations under the GFA, it's time Unionism fullfilled its.
If they do not then a different arrangement will have to be met that does not rely on their involvement.
